Media Relations Internship with FIU Division of External Relations, Strategic Communications and Marketing
The internship provides students the opportunity to utilize, under professional supervision, skills required through normal coursework. It allows the student to observe competent professional models on the job and be provided evaluative feedback.
Students work a minimum of 15 hours a week for the course of the semester for a total of 3 credits. The media relations intern handles daily office duties such as answering and routing phone calls and requests; compiling and distributing daily news clips featuring Florida International University, as well as news coverage reports; and helping with the logistics of media relations events. The media relations intern also researches and drafts media advisories, press releases, and other communications, as assigned.
Responsibilities: – Provides direct assistance to department director and other members of the media relations team, including maintaining office organization, daily calendars, and scheduling appointments.
– Assists with compiling and distributing university news clips, as well as coverage reports.
– Receives, reviews, and processes media correspondence and requests.
– Assists in sending out press releases and monitoring various media outlets for important news coverage pertaining to the university.
– Researches and drafts media advisories, press releases, and other communications.
– Other media relations support duties as assigned.

NABJ South Florida’s “Scholarship on the Sea” Yacht Party
The National Association of Black Journalists National Convention will be coming to Miami Aug. 7-1The local Chapter will be hosting a “Scholarship on the Seas,” Yacht Party to raise funds for scholarships.

Newsgathering Desk Intern with NBCUniversal
Responsibilities: •Interns assist our correspondents, producers and assignment editors on hour by hour and every day responsibilities.

The Grist Fellowship Program
The Grist Fellowship Program is a paid opportunity to hone your skills at a national news outlet and deepen your understanding of environmental issues. They’re looking for early-career journalists with a variety of skills, from traditional reporting to multimedia whizbangery. They will offer exposure to the leading sustainability thinkers and innovators of our time, real-world experience at a fast-paced news site, and the occasional homemade croissant. Fellows have gone on to land jobs at Mother Jones, The New York Times, Wirecutter, Pacific Standard, Oceana, Greentech Media, The Stranger, and (of course) Grist.
The fellowship pays $2,750 per month. Fellows must make a six-month commitment.
For our fall term, which begins in September 2019, they’re looking for all-stars in two primary areas: 1) news and politics 2) environmental justice.

These RAs can work from either campus, and will assist with the recording and editing of videos that focus on research being conducted in the HDCI Lab. As these RAs will be given greater independence in terms of task completion, they are not required to volunteer during regular business hours or on the MMC Campus.
