Interns for FIU News and Communications in the Division of External Relations
They are currently searching for interns for their online and print publications. The ideal candidate will possess strong writing and interviewing skills along with a go-getter attitude. Staff will provide direction and productive feedback in what should prove an excellent learning opportunity that results in a number of published articles. The paid internship requires roughly 15-20 hours per week and lasts approximately six months with the potential to go longer. Interns will participate in weekly news huddles and interact with seasoned editors as well as photographers, videographers and designers.

The Assistant Public Information Officer (APIO) will work directly with ISC staff to assist with all tasks related to current and future transportation projects. The APIO must be able to multi-task, be organized and understand how to work with government agencies.
Responsibilities and Duties Include Assisting with the Following:
-Keeping the Miami-Dade County community aware of various ongoing transportation projects.
-Informing the traveling public of the traffic impacts related to these FDOT projects.
-Creating documentation that will provide the public with the proper project information, including: fact sheets, brochures, press releases, website updates and email distribution.
-Preparing and disseminate information to the public, elected officials and the media regarding any upcoming events or activities that will affect the traveling public.
-Coordinating with all other consultants working on projects as well as any other projects that may affect the traveling public.

-Providing correspondence via emails, letters, new releases and media updates as approved by the DPI (Director of Public Information).
-Contacting businesses within the proposed working area in advance of road closings or other disruptions to mitigate impacts through emails, personal calls, visits or any other method necessary.
-Scheduling and organizing meetings with public officials and other pertinent parties to discuss project schedules, progress and special issues throughout the project duration.
-Monitoring and update project information websites.
Qualifications and Skills
-Graduate of an accredited college or university with a degree in the communications or associated field.
-Experience with both print and electronic collateral, television and print media, and public involvement services. Must possess exceptional oral and written communication skills, be knowledgeable in public relations and/or media relations and be capable of creating dynamic informational materials for public consumption. Availability to work extended hours which include attendance at Community Public Information Meetings for Florida Department of -Transportation projects taking place in the community.
