fiu-prssa The Florida International University – William C. Adams Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (FIU PRSSA) was established in 1989 with the help of the Miami Chapter of PRSA and has currently grown to more than 100 members.  PRSSA is an organization that helps students develop their public relations skills, network with public relations practitioners, obtain internships and ultimately become successfully employed in the field.

lpe21 Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the National Communication Association’s official honor society at four-year colleges and universities. As an accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), Lambda Pi Eta has active chapters at four-year colleges and universities worldwide. LPH represents what Aristotle described in The Rhetoric as three ingredients of persuasion: logos (Lambda); pathos (Pi); and ethos (Eta). Lambda Pi Eta recognizes, fosters and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement while stimulating interest in the communication discipline. More information is available here.

The name of the FIU chapter is Alpha Beta Psi.

Students cannot apply the semester they are graduating.

Those who want to be Members must apply and pay a $30 membership fee, which will cover a lifetime membership in LPH, including a membership certificate and a pin. Honor cord (for graduation) will cost an additional $9 per student. Once the certificate is ordered, then the National Office will receive the receipt, name, induction date and email address of each individual member that an order was placed for. Once that order is placed and the student is inducted, he or she will be a lifetime member of LPH.

Lambda Pi Eta Fall 2017 Events

ted TEDxFIU Club at FIU brings together students who are interested in public speaking. Primary purpose of the club is to give its members a chance to work together to prepare a TEDxFIU talk, practice the speech, and perfect it. Besides TEDxFIU talks, the club also engages in various activities; such as speech viewings and analysis, speech competitions, and practicing different types of speech, which help the members become effective public speakers and public speech consumers.

ambassadors The Communication Arts Ambassador program helps promote pride and understanding of Communication Arts. The benefits for both the Student Ambassador and the College are unlimited. Ambassadors will assist by: Planning the annual programs and other events hosted or co-hosted by the Communication Arts Department.; Attending ambassador professional development workshops; and Representing the department at events.

Current project:

Lotus House Interview Training: The Communication Arts Ambassadors are currently working with Lotus House for a Basic Job Readiness Training Program. The ambassadors conduct one-on-one individual coaching and job readiness training to help prepare women and youth to enter the work place successfully, with appropriate dress, good communication and customer service skills, and responsible work etiquette. The students work closely with Visiting Instructor, Jessica Delgado, and Community Engagement Coordinator, Gabby Portela, to receive proper training in non-verbals, interview training, and constructive criticism. To join, email Gabby Portela at dportela@fiu.edu

FIUDebateTeam_Website-1024x512 The FIU Debate Team is a student union on campus focused on the importance of fostering public debate and public deliberation. Over the last fourteen years, FIU’s debate team has represented the University in collegiate competitions in a variety of public debate styles including parliamentary and policy debate.

FIU Debate has become a leader in fostering public dialogue and public debates in Miami and the FIU Community. FIU Debate regularly participates in community dialogue programs and fosters public deliberation.
